West Brom turn down Odemwingie proposal from Al-Gharafa
West Bromwich Albion have reportedly rejected a bid from Al-Gharafa for Peter Odemwingie.

The Nigerian striker was the subject of a £4million offer from the Qatari club but Sky Sports suggests that the Baggies turned that down.

31-year old Odemwingie has been linked with plenty of clubs since he arrived at The Hawthorns in August 2010 but Albion have continually said he is not for sale as they look to keep the former Lokomotiv Moscow man.

Reading manager Brian McDermott has rubbished claims that he is after Italian veteran Filippo Inzaghi.

The Royals have been heavily linked with the former AC Milan striker but McDermott says the rumour has simply come from the mouth of an agent.

“I know exactly where that has come from… I was sat in Tallinn with (director of football) Nick Hammond and one of our scouts (last week),” McDermott told getreading.

“We were introduced to an Italian agent and we said hello. We started talking about numerous players and he said, ‘I can get you Inzaghi.’

“I said, ‘Okay, that’s good, he’s old isn’t he?’

“I told him that we wouldn’t be going down that road and I was happy with the players that I have and we carried on talking.

“That translated as, ‘we’ve offered him a contract worth about £960,000’.”

Reports from AS and Marca suggest that Luka Modric has told Andre Villas-Boas he wants to leave Tottenham.

The Croatian playmaker has been heavily linked with a summer move to Spanish champions Real Madrid and it now appears as though he will push for a move away from White Hart Lane.

There has been a stumbling block with the proposed move because both clubs have been unable to agree a fee but the recent reports indicate that Modric wants out.

Instead of training this morning, Modric had a meeting with Villas-Boas to tell him he has no intention if continuing with Spurs as he tries to push through the deal.

Recent reports suggest that none of the bids made for Robin van Persie have met Arsenal’s valuation of the star striker.

Recent reports suggest that none of the bids made for Robin van Persie have met Arsenal’s valuation of the star striker.

The Gunners captain is the target of Manchester City, Manchester United and Juventus but it has been reported that offers received from this trio have fallen short of what the North Londoners want.

It is proposed that Arsenal want no less than £30millionm for the Dutchman who has yet to sign a contract extension with the club with his current deal expiring next summer.

van Persie will not go on the clubs pre-season tour to Asia as Arsenal are keen to sort out his future as soon as possible.

Shakhtar Donetsk star Willian is confident Chelsea still want him despite their deal for Internacional midfielder Oscar.

Willian does not believe Chelsea have necessarily dropped their interest in him despite closing in on other targets such as Oscar.

He explained: “Chelsea had already reached an agreement regarding Oscar when they made that last offer to sign me.

“I’m sure it won’t be a problem as we are different kinds of players. He is more like a playmaker and I am more like an attacking midfielder.

“But it’s a matter of waiting. A lot can still happen.”

Chelsea must pay £10 million cash to land Wigan Athletic attacker Victor Moses.

Latics chairman Dave Whelan will not let Moses go on the cheap — telling the Champions League and FA Cup holders to put up or shut up.

Whelan said: “They need to pay the brass up front — we don’t want any part-exchange deals they have offered.

“Victor is one of the most exciting young talents around, so little wonder Chelsea want him, but if they want him they are going to have to pay the price.

“We are not interested in picking up one of their players on loan or in part exchange.

“They know the price for Moses. We are looking to reach £10m.

“If that means £8m cash and some add-ons, that’s fine, as the lad knows that we want him to stay but that we won’t stand in his way either.”

“All I am looking at is that the season ahead of us will be a really good one, just like last season.

“Last season we finished fifth and doing that again will be difficult.

“I am ready for the challenge with Newcastle. It’s a new season, and I think we have a lot of things to do.

“We will be playing in two competitions and it’s going to be difficult.”
